The Adaptationsit of Indian Cinema - Vishal Bhardwaj


Vishal Bhardwaj is an Indian film director, writer, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer as well, known for his works in modern Hindi cinema. He produces films under his banner V.B Pictures. He has received six National Film Awards. His directorial debut MAKDEE was screened in the Spotlight on India section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. His films Maqbool and Omkara got screened in the Marché du Film (market section) of the 2004 and 2006 Cannes Film Festivals respectively. The Indian cinema has very deep respect  for Vishal Bhardwaj because of his efforts to make films based on novels, plays and other short stories. Apart from his directorial work, Vishal Bhardwaj is famous among the young generation of India because of his adaptations of A.K Ramanujan, Francis Ford Coppola, Ruskin Bond's "SUSANNA'S SEVEN HUSBANDS" and William Shakespeares plays like OTHELLO, 
                                                                    MACBETH and HAMLET.


1) MAQBOOL (Adaptation of William Shakespears MACBETH)

    In Mumbai's criminal underworld, the lord of all lords is Jahangir Khan (Pankaj Kapoor). Those loyal to him include Maqbool (Irfan Khan), his chief. But Maqbool is in love with Nimmi (Tabu), Jahangir's mistress, who convinces him to be ambitious and take over the empire. After maneuvering potential rivals out of the way, Maqbool betrays Jahangir, murdering him in his own bed. However, it isn't long before both Maqbool and Nimmi are haunted by the ghosts of their treacherous deeds.


2) OMAKARA (Adaptation of William Shakespeares OTHELLO)

In this adaptation of Shakespeare's "Othello" set in India, half-caste bandit Omkara Shukla (Ajay Devgan) abducts his lady love, Dolly Mishra (Kareena Kapoor), from her family. Thanks to his cleverness, he gets away with the kidnapping. A conspiracy, however, forms against him when he denies his right-hand man, Langda Tyagi (Saif Ali Khan), a promotion. Ultimately, this plot threatens not only his relationship with Dolly, but their lives and those of their associates as well.


3) HAIDER (Adaptation of William Shakespeares HAMLET)

Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of William Shakespeares 'Hamlet', Haider - a young man returns home to Kashmir on receiving news of his fathers disappearance. Not only does he learn that security forces have detained his father for harboring militants, but that his mother is in a relationship with his very own uncle. Intense drama follows between mother and son as both struggle to come to terms with news of his fathers death. Soon Haider learns that his uncle is responsible for the gruesome murder, what follows is his journey to avenge his fathers death.

Apart from such success, Vishal bhardwaj is always famous for his hard work and creative work like ISHQIYA, DEDH ISHQIYA, 7 KHOON MAAF, MAKDI and many more. But the director of such marvelous movies is still working on his dream project. RANGOON, movie is a period film set during world war two. It stars Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles. Actress Kangana Ranaut will be traveling to New York City to research her role, and then to an island in Mexico to learn solo living.
